With 3 in. tires for stability and traction on the rough stuff, the Salsa Timberjack 20 SUS Plus bike also has an SR Suntour XCT suspension fork with 60mm travel to help kids handle the bumps.

- This, combined with the lower strength of a child relative to an adult, means that the steering and handling need to be quicker and more responsive than a normal mountain bike
